Solution description

We propose an interactive platform that contains a digital solution accessible to each migrant, in order to access information and build a "roadmap" for their functional development in all its dimensions (education and language, health, housing, labour market and entrepreneurship, civic participation and culture). Consequently, the platform will promote integration into the host country's community in a faster and more effective way.

Solution context

We will contribute to overcoming the problem of functional illiteracy, facilitating the access of migrant communities to the minimum information necessary for their inclusion in the different dimensions (housing, education, employment, health, culture, among others) through a digital platform that aggregates this information so that it can be used in a simple way.

Solution target group

Our solution is particularly aimed at migratory groups with low functional literacy, due to the asymmetries between the origin and host countries, which may compromise the integration process.

Solution impact

Our platform aims to be a tool for the inclusion of migrants in the initial phase of their arrival, in order to speed up the integration process through facilitated access to information, namely through two functionalities:

  • completion of a form by the migrants to become aware of the resources and skills (specific and transversal) they possess (or not) to start their integration path;
  • our platform will include an intelligent virtual manager to support both the navigation in the platform and the presentation of strategies appropriate to the needs of each user.

Solution tweet text

L2I is a platform which aims to facilitate the integration of the migrants in the country of destination using innovating technologies (AI systems based on ethical and responsible algorithms).

Solution innovativeness

Our platform is different and innovative because it aggregates in a multimodal way, in the same virtual space, all the minimum/basic information necessary for integration in the new territory and the ongoing monitoring of the process by AI systems based on ethical and responsible algorithms. These IA systems will contribute to the empowerment of migrants, giving them a set of alternative paths to solve their most immediate problems with a view to integration. The platform will be inclusive and equitable, allowing access to people with disabilities. Our platform will be adapted according to the idiosyncrasies of the target audience (icons, layout, among others).

Solution transferability

This platform, idealised for the Portuguese context, can be adopted in any international context, provided the necessary adjustments arising from different realities (administrative and legal procedures, among others) are made.  Our platform can be also useful for other more vulnerable target groups.

Solution sustainability

The interdisciplinary team set up for this project will enable the proposed objectives to be met, by capitalizing on technical resources and networking with different public and private stakeholders.

Solution team work

The team has a history of working in partnership and close relationships with the main actors to be involved in this project, which enhances the implementation of the solution presented.
